龙血砂为高端降坡泥的一种 ， 龙血砂对降坡泥有如大红袍对朱泥 ， 底槽清对清水泥的关系 。
2007年丁蜀镇修建紫砂路，在距大水潭50米左右的黄龙山三号坡，挖出一槽殷红如血的紫砂矿源，说是一槽其实不过很薄一层，最厚处不超过15cm，夹在两块巨石中间，数量极其稀少，总量3吨多。
据挖矿的老师傅说，他在黄龙山当了一辈子矿工还是头一次见到这种殷红色的矿源，这是挖到了龙的血脉，江南人把血称为“旺”，说使用这样的紫砂壶会带来财运和福气。
经专业检测，其中Fe2O3高达23.46，是已知的含铁量最高的紫砂，比普通紫泥高出约3倍。不同窑温下色泽差异极大，高温状态表面会出现众多黑星，最佳窑温1160度，呈典型的中国红。
龙血砂近乎全颗粒，粘性差，即便粉碎到100目，经千锤百炼仍然不易成型，也因如此，一旦烧成，透气性比底槽清更胜一筹。
因为目前陈腐时间相对不够久，制壶不易成型，纯料龙血砂需要制作生胚的制壶高手，就像石红一样容易酥。与职称高低无关。
烧成为陶，平淡无光；养成为玉，美不胜收。适合各种茗茶，不夺香，不走味，不败茶，还原性无与伦比。是玩家藏家的不二之选。、
